Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy is the fiscal agent and managing partner of the Georgia Rural Library Initiative funded funded by an anonymous donor from the Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta.

The initiative commitment includes matching funds of $100,000 for your county library/libraries with an additional $100,000 for scholarship support for participating community residents who pursue Education degrees and agree to return to teach in rural communities.

Morgan, Hancock, Butts, & Putnam Counties are the current participants; each initially funded with $50,000.  We are no longer accepting applications for the 2008 fiscal year.  Check back in summer 2008 for information on how to apply for this grant for your county for the 2009 fiscal year.

If you are interested in applying in the future, we have provided guidelines for filling out your proposal and provided two sample ones for your use: Morgan County and Hancock County.  We have also compiled a matrix of the projected funding schedule for the participating communities to give you an idea of how the funds are distributed yearly to each community in the program.

For students in counties already participating in the initiative, you can download the scholarship application for 2007-2008.
